Polka Dot Pals Peggy

We have a fantastic release over at Little Miss Muffet Stamps that you’re going to fall in love with!  Why?  We have new Polka Dot Pals to play with!!  Plus a few feline friends that have joined the mix.  🙂  You’ll want to make sure to visit the LMMS Blog to see the inspiration from the design team as they have done a superb job with these images!  I on the other hand, flubbed coloring my image but hopefully you’ll still be impressed.  LOL

First of all, my project uses the new Polka Dot Pals Peggy and Polka Dot Pals Feline Sitting that were released today at Little Miss Muffet Stamps.  I’ve also used the Park Glen Door Metal Die in the background (also from LMMS) plus a few elements from Make it Crafty to create the this scene, which includes Ivy Ribbon Swing and elements from Whimsical Digi Elements.

My experimenting was on the face.  Last time I tried to do a face with an open mouth (click HERE), the mouth just didn’t look right.  So this time I used inspiration from the picture on this site HERE (look for the boy eating the tomato) and I did better than last time.  However, the rest of the face makes her look like an old lady!  Yikes!  O’well, I’ll try again next time and hopefully have better luck.  LOL

Graffiti MiC

‘Sup Make it Crafty fans?!  Remember the project I was coloring and posted on Make it Crafty FaceBook?  Well, here’s the final result and if you remember the before version then you’ll notice I wasn’t very brave with my ongoings!  LOL  I was planning on casting hard dark shadows and darkening most of it as if a street lamp was the only source.  But I had liked what I colored too much to venture any further.  ;D

This project revisits the Urban Street Collection and also shows off a secrete MiC graffiti sentiment for Make it Crafty fans!  (More on the graffiti sentiments, from Little Miss Muffet Stamps, will be revealed here later this month.  I know, it’s such a tease!)  To create this scene, I’ve used elements from the Urban Street, Factory Elements and Urban Fencing combo packs from Make it Crafty but you can get them all in the Urban Street Collection.  And trust me… you’re going to want them ALL!  The character is a Toxic Teen from Simply B Stamps.  As an embellishment, I took some soft metal I had and used metal stamps to create the “be crafty” sentiment.  ‘Cuz, you know… Make it Crafty… be crafty?!

The colors were inspired by Faye when she submitted her own project into the teal, mustard and brown color challenge in the MiC FaceBook group.  I was impressed by the mustard color choices and just had to try them out!  The teal didn’t work out for me as well as it did for her, but the general color is there to count.

Moxi and Paris Elements

Make it Colourful challenges are back and we have our very first challenge opening up today!  There’s actually two challenges so it’s easy to play along.  The first challenge is to color something orange and black but the other challenge is to color a spooky or foggy background.  I was deemed to try the harder challenge by Zoe and Jennifer and of course I had to accepted it.  😀  Here’s my project…

The images were put together using Moxi and I used the Paris Elements to create a fireplace.  Jennifer had posted a preview of her project and showed us a fantastic way to color a ghost!  The way she used the colors and the white on the paper really made it glow!  I was inspired by that and so that’s how I decided to color this image.  For the background, Jennifer was very handy with the air gun but mine was packed away for the month and I had to make do with just the markers.  It wasn’t easy and there are a lot of mistakes!

On top of the challenge, I decided to take it one step further and make this ghost really glow under the black light!  To do that, I added a little fluorescent FYG1 to the colors Jennifer used.  I had to be careful how much I applied and it changed the color of my ghost a little yellow.  However, I immediately accepted that change as soon as I looked at it under the black light – wow, it really glows!  Moxi pops off the page more in the dark but this will give you an idea on how much it worked…

I’m not sure how much I like the billowing cloud coming out of the fireplace but I certainly like the whole thing better in the dark!  LOL

No matter what your coloring fancies are this month, make sure to visit the Make it Colourful blog for all the challenge details and then come play along!  We hope our projects have inspired you.  ;D

Halloween House

Is it too early to work on Halloween projects?  No! That’s the wonderful thing about the crafting world is the holidays can last all year long and you can create in any season you want.  😀  After all, in order go stock up on holiday cards, I have to work on them throughout the year, so why not Halloween projects too?!  He he he

This is a project I created using the Haunted House stamp from Make it Crafty which comes in digital and in rubber form.  I wanted to keep the card simple so I enlarged the image as big as possible then spend my time working on the details of the image.  The tombstones where colored with Copic Warm Gray colors then YG91 and YG93 were used to add moss to the stones.  The tried my hand at metals too so you’ll see some silver (done with Copic Cool grays) and tarnished copper (done with E90’s and a touch of E07, E15 and E13 for the aged areas.)

Every time I color a house, I’m always tempted to “leave all the lights on” and color all the windows in a yellow glow.  This is because I remember my Mom likes the Thomas Kincaid paintings and he always has the lights on.  She says it’s so cozy and inviting.  😀  So do you think it worked for this house?

Notti Little Mushrooms

Today I’ve posted something on the Make it Crafty Store Blog which you can see HERE.  I have some naughty little mushrooms on my project … er, I mean, I’d like to show you something using Notti AND Little Mushrooms!  I’ve merged together these two fun images to create this scene.  I wanted to color this one using the same technique as the last project; which was to color without blending and using three colors, light, medium, and dark (plus a white gel pen).

This is in attempt to duplicate the coloring style I see in the Fayes and Gnomes images in the Make it Crafty store.  This being my second attempt, I like how much easier it was to color as there was less concentration on the technique.  That allowed me to pay more attention to the shape of the color I was laying down. And as you can see I pretty much used the same colors too.

There were two things I did different this time around… I added more dots, which I don’t think I worked out very well, then I did the grass a little different, following in Jennifer Dove’s footsteps, which I liked so much better.  😀  Except for the two larger mushrooms, I liked how this one turned out much better.  Plus the colors were fun to play with! This is a technique that can also be done with non-alcohol markers too!

MiC Alice in Wonderland Release

It’s time for the Make it Crafty to pour a round of drinks at the super special tea party celebrations! Not only are we celebrating the magical release of Alice in Wonderland, but Make it Crafty has turned 3! All thanks to YOU, the incredible artists and the amazing Make it Crafty team!

Let’s dance around from chair to chair, sipping a drink, eating a cake, shrinking then growing with excitement as you watch the entertainment unfold before your eyes. Be careful not to miss the hidden words as you’ll need to collect them along the way and string them all together to form a quote. Simply enter the quote at the end of the hop for a chance to win!

Hopefully you’ve found your way from TRUDIE
but if you’ve just skipped a chair or two you might want to start back at Zoe’s Blog.
For my project I’ve used three of the newest images and composed a page in my art journal.  It’s been a while since I added a page in there and these kinds of releases are perfect for that.  😀  The images I used are Alice, Hidden Hole and the Chesire Cat.  Many of the embellishments are from Zoe herself (thank you!) and my favorite by far are the gumnut thingies on the lower left side.  I only had three and wish I hadn’t used them up so quickly since those are they’re surprisingly a rarity here in Texas.  Zoe… you need to send me more!  LOL
Now for the best part of this post… a small tutorial on coloring the tree.  Now, mind you, this isn’t a tutorial on “how to color,” rather it a breakdown of how each color is applied.  (For a small giggle regarding tutorials, click HERE and see “How to Draw The Tick.”)
For the tree, I used much the same technique as coloring hair.  The colors I used are Copic E57, E55, E41, E44 and E47 and each panel shows how that color was applied.  I started with a mid-tone brown and worked my way up to the lightest color. Then to add more depth, I went back to a mid-tone brown and finally a dark brown for the darkest areas.
There are many different ways to color this tree especially when you get down to the knotty parts.  I wasn’t sure what to do with them myself until the fourth color!  I thought if a tree like this is going to have a large hole into Wonderland, then a small concave area would be fitting.  You can also fill the area around with all grass or all wood… it’s quiet the versatile little tree.
The fun doesn’t stop here and if you head over to JENN’s blog
she’ll be sure to treat you with even more fabulous inspiration!
