Strong Island

Welcome to the joint release blog hop!! Whimsy Stamps & Make it Crafty have come together to create a fun Urban Themed digi collection!

We have broken it in to TWO HOPS – HOP A Starts HERE & HOP B Starts HERE! You are currently on HOP A and should have arrived from the incredible DEBBIE!

Ann Vento has whipped up her magic and designed an incredible collection of funky wall sayings, city landscapes and of course a range of super cool street signs. Check out the Sentiments collection HERE!

Make it Crafty is trying something new offering all the different elements for you to build your own urban backdrop. Check out the Urban Street Collection HERE!

Then of course, what better characters to incorporate into such a scene than the fabulous KennyK rubber stamps available from Whimsy Stamps!

For my project I used Kenny K’s Strong Island image and used Annika’s project for my coloring guide and also used one of her hair colors too! Then after I had seen how Carole had colored her Urban background I had to copy the windows too. ;D Mine were blue before but I loved the black and had to change it.

I feel that this project is was isspired and put together completely by my friends … I even had Zoe merged the Urban wall background for me. All I did was just the coloring. LOL Well I can’t think of anything else to say … so I hope you enjoy the project and both hops!

Our incredibly talented Design Teams have had a blast playing with all the different elements to bring you LOTS of inspiration so I hope you get a chance to see them all! Your next stop on HOP A is the fabulous MARLEY, but before you go make sure you leave a comment below!

You have until August 21st 8PM Australian QLD time to make your way through the hops!

All Our Yesterdays Seahorse

It’s a new challenge at My Sheri Crafts and this time I was asked to be a guest. ;D This week the theme is to create a bookmark or book covers and I created another page in my journal which would also be perfect for a summer journal cover!

I used a new image that I couldn’t resist getting… Joanna Sheen : Faye Whittaker “All Our Yesterdays Seahorse.” I had some braids to two of the girls when I colored them and a few extra strands on the oldest girl but kept everything else the same. Then I placed it in front of the Tropical Beach from Make it Crafty.

This is actually the first page in my new journal so it really is fitting. I used a few extra things I had around for embellishments including Martha Stewart taffy stickers, Stampin’ Up! Magic Mesh (wow, isn’t that old!), some gems and another awesome felt sun created from My Favorite Things Die-namics Sunshine die.

Thanks Sheri for selecting my card as a winner as asking me to be a guest. It’s always fun to meet new people and I enjoyed creating this page. ;D

I’m a guest designer at My Sheri Crafts Blog for this challenge!

From The Desk Of

After watching Annika’s coloring tutorial I decided to dig out my Prismacolor Pencils and give them another try. I learned two things while watching that I wanted to try out – first to use a paper with texture (a good tooth) and second I like how she started with a lighter color first.

The coloring actually worked out easier that I expected and the blending was smooth sailing! I didn’t have to press as hard as before and no minerals were needed for blending. I had to color this one in less than 15 minutes but loved how easily it turned out.

Main Stamp: From The Desk Of (Flourishes)

The border idea is from Jen (Deconstructing Jen). Thanks! ;D

Did you know? Tau Ceti is a star in the constellation Cetus that is spectrally similar to the Sun, but only has about 78% of the Sun’s mass. At a distance of just under 12 light years from the Solar System, it is a relatively close star. Unlike other prominent stars, Tau Ceti does not have a widely recognized traditional name. It can be seen with the unaided eye as a faint third-magnitude star.

Cupid Ridley

I have something fun for today… I’m the Guest Designer for Quirky Craft’s Challenges #4 this week! Remember the Miss Anya Dressy I made a while back? Yep, that was the winner. So now I get to briefly join in with the team today and bring you this card using Cupid Ridley, from the sponsor Digital Delights.

The challenge theme is “Recycled Romance: use something in your creation that would normally be thrown away and not designed for crafting plus combine it with a Valentines theme.” On my card I used a broken zipper, a used cake-plate doily (shhh… I had to grab a fresh clean one to use! he he), and finally a gold foil candy wrapper (which really was from the trash can, go figure!).

Did you know? Susto is a cultural illness, specifically a “fright sickness” with strong psychological overtones. Susto comes from the Portuguese, and Spanish word for “fright” (i.e. sudden intense fear, as of something immediately threatening). The onset of the disease generally follows a sudden frightening experience. Research shows that knowledge of the existence of susto is a major contributing factor in improving the condition.

Butterfly Baby Girl

Yeah – it’s another weekend! We’ve had four days in a row with no school because of “Snow Day” cancellations so it’s been a great week to relax. Today is another day for a Make it Colourful challenge and this time we’re challenging you to mix your colors… blue and purple to be exact! I made my card using Butterfly Baby Girl from Karen’s Doodles and behind it I added Sheepish Rainbow by Make it Crafty.

Most of my blending is found right in the center with the flowers, dress and butterflies. The flowers were first colored purple then blue was added – and the dress was the opposite, colored blue first then purple was added. I felt they turned out too similar but also tried blending purples/blue with pinks in the butterflies.

Here’s the complete view of the background, Sheepish Rainbow, before most of it was covered. I had originally wanted the rainbow without the sheep, but in the end it turned out perfect. Growing up, I helped my parents raise sheep and bottle feed the lambs in our backyard until they were old enough to send out in the pasture. It was fun and those little lambs were so cute.

Did you know? The genus Tyto includes all barn-owls except for the bay-owls – that is, the true barn-owls, the grass-owls and the masked-owls collectively making up the subfamily Tytoninae. Tyto owls tend to be larger than Bay-owls. The barn-owls’ main characteristic is the heart-shaped facial disc, formed by stiff feathers which serve to amplify and locate the source of sounds when hunting. Further adaptations in the wing feathers eliminate sound caused by flying, aiding both the hearing of the owl listening for hidden prey and keeping the prey unaware of the owl.
