Can you take a summer scene and convert it into winter? Challenge accepted! For this challenge I used the digital Polka Dot Pals Raden River Exploring scene. The first thing I need to consider is the color pallet – using cool colors represents a winter climate so I chose blue, teal and purple as the main colors. Secondly, I printed the color in a light gray so I could color over the line, such as the grass tufts, and not worry about about keeping that exact shape and converting it to clumps of snow instead. After the image was colored, the last thing I added was snowflakes…. lots of snow. I think these three tips will help convert any non-winter themed image into a winter one. Good luck!

Polka Dot Pals Tobias from Whimsy Stamps

Sensational, magnificent, spectacular, stupendous and exceptional – this card using Polka Dot Pals Tobias is all of that and more! I had a lot of fun creating this card and using a warm color pallet to create this celebratory card. I really like that it can be used for any occasion especially since I occasionally need a congratulatory card. Read below for more details on how I created this card using these featured products:

The character is Polka Dot Pals Tobias and the background is made up of several sentiments from other Polka Dot Pals sets. I wanted the bottom to be blank but it looks like I can fit two more words on there with this type of layout… but that’s for another card. I picked the words with celebration and excitement. Then I used the Sun Rays Stencil to bring it all together and help make this one-layer card more interesting. One-layer cards are sometimes difficult for me but I’m happy how this turned out.

Polka Dot Pals Tobias from Whimsy Stamps

Today is sensational! It’s also a new release day at Whimsy Stamps and today I’m showcasing the accessory stamps in Polka Dot Pals Tobias. This fun set is all about celebrations and surprises. Keep reading for more details on how I created this card using these featured products:

I decided I wanted to create a bright celebration card for a birthday which meant I needed to use a rainbow of colors. So I started coloring at the top of the image with the red star and worked down the rainbow to the purple. I then kept the box simple and colored that in black and white. The way I colored Polka Dot Pals Tobias worked well with the Rainbow Paper Pack.
When creating the card, I used an action wobble behind the stars. I thought having movement would simulate the stars jumping out of the box and add an extra element. The last accessory stamp was the tag and I thought it would be whimsical to attach that to the sentiment.

Linking Train from Whimsy Stamps

I’m back to making holiday cards and again I’m using the new Linking Train set to create my card. This card is an interactive one which involves a pull tab – read below for more details on how I created it and what secrets this card holds using they featured products:

Sometimes it felt like I was making this card the wrong way or at least backwards. I started with the colored images of Linking Train, which was usual. But then I started to plan out how I could use all the images but only one of each of them. This became a problem with the tracks – there was only one but I had three cars to worry about. That would look odd… but how could I pull it off?
After thinking about it more, I realized I could make the card with the engine and singe track on the front of the card and then the rest of the images on the inside. Then it gradually morphed into a pull-tab card where I hid the extra train cars behind the first. This was going to be epic! I assembled and dismantled the project several time but finally sorted it out.
To describe it, starting from the base layer of red plaid (Tartan 6×6 Paper), I used three layers of foam tape around three sides (top, left and bottom). Down where I wanted the train to pull out, I used two layers of foam tape and created a track for the pull. The train cars were glued onto the small pull tab from the No-See Kinetic Basics Die set – I made use of the hole and tied a small string to tape it onto the base which help the train cars from being pulled completely out. Behind the kinetic piece, I added two plastic slider tabs which would guide the train in and out. It’s slightly delicate, so not good for kids and husbands, but otherwise, durable for the delicate crafter. LOL

Linking Train from Whimsy Stamps

I whipped out a couple cards today using the new Linking Train clear stamp from Whimsy Stamps and enjoyed making a holiday and birthday card. The holiday one is a bit more complex so I’m going to showcase the birthday card today. This is one of my favorite sets and I always love the cards that are created with it. Definitely a must have! Linking Train
Slimline Card Builder Die

The Linking Train is perfect for all sorts of cards and works well with slimline cards too. For this one, I created a scene using the accessory stamps and added one car. I could probably fit two more cars on a slimline but for this one I wanted to make sure I had room for the sentiment. For this card, I used the Slimline Card Builder Die to cut it down to size after coloring.
After coloring the train and adding white patterns on the flag, I realized the white background would need something more. The white was overpowering to me so I decided to take my lightest colors and create a simple scene. The grass uses two green markers, the mountains are one and the sky is another color – I think the lighter and more simple scene complements the Linking Train well.

Polka Dot Pals Uzuri from Whimsy Stamps

I have a second card that I’ve create for new release using Polka Dot Pals Uzuri. This one uses the snowman and bird accessory stamps to be the main focus. Continue reading for more details on how I used these key products:

I drew the snowman in this set thinking that Polka Dot Pals Uzuri had made a bunch of snow balls and was pulling them accross the park to build it in the corner. Of course, there was some jossling along the way but it looks like she knows what she is doing, right?
I colored the bird red to bring in some bright contrasting color and then decided to carry on that theme with the letters and dots. For a sentiment, I used the stamps’ sentiment as inspiration and created the CHEER from Bold ABC Die and stamping them with the AlFaDoodles. I thought the styles worked well together.
