Technicolored Theodore

I tried out a bit of retail therapy this week and ended up with the new Spectrum Noir Aqua markers on my desk.  Anyone who knows me would already guess that I bought the whole set!  Just because I’m methodical about my coloring rainbows… as you can see with my custom color chart.  This was my third attempt and I but finally came up with one that I could live with.

Now that the collection is complete and my color chart is sorted out, I need to figure out how to use them.  Easy-peasy, right?  Wow, was I wrong.  Looks like I need to figure out the right kind of paper to use.  So far I’ve tried five types…

Take I – Watercolor Paper 140#.  First I tried watercolor paper but it was so absorbent that it sucked the ink up so fast that I couldn’t reactivate it with water.  Even tried putting water down first but then I started to get a crystallized effect as the ink quickly spread through the paper.  I still wasn’t able to blend afterwards with a brush.  However, marker on top of marker did ok as long as the color were close – for example the darker brown wouldn’t mix with the light brown but the two light browns would mix with each other.

Take II – Georgia Pacific White 110#.  Next I tried using regular card paper from Walmart.  However, there was even less of a chance of blending on this paper no matter what I did.  The paper soon warped and disintegrated.

Take III – Curious Metallic Cryogen White 89#.  This time I grabbed something that I knew could hold a lot of ink which is what I also use for my Copic markers.  I was able to layer color on color multiple times, however, I couldn’t reactivate the inks with water.  As long as I was using more marker then I could push the colors around and blend more.  Still not the watercolor effect I was looking for and there aren’t that many light colors to make this work for all images.

Take IV – Gina K. Pure Luxury Pure White 120#.  Next I brought out the heavy guns and tried a really thick card paper.  I could layer as much as I wanted on this paper but blending was difficult.  Also any water I added was thwarted by the paper as it sucked it up.  Although the bonus this paper had was it didn’t matter how wet it got, the inks wouldn’t bleed outside of their designated zones.

Take V – Semi-Gloss Card.  As a final attempt I decided to try a semi-gloss card paper.  The only thing I had handy was a black and white dragon bookmark.  When attempting to use the brush and watercolor brush on the clouds, it wouldn’t move around and I ended up wiping away most of it.  However, just a whim, I tried the fine point and started coloring the dragons.  I was surprised to see that the fine point on the semi-gloss paper would actually blend!  Not the watercolor effect I was looking for but I was at least able to blend satisfactorily.

I have no idea what I’m going to try next but perhaps some more retail therapy might be involved.  Stay tuned and maybe the next project will be successful.

Celeste Amberglow Celebrate

The next challenge is starting at LMMS and this time it’s all about circles!  We want to see you create with circles – whether that’s a circle shapes card, using circles or making circles.  You can probably stretch it but as long as you have plenty of circles then we’ll let it slide.  LOL

I pulled out a project that I made last week that seemed to fit.  The balloons are circles, right?  Then the polka dots on the paper, the circles on the diecut flower and circle embellishments.  (I know it’s a stretch but hay, it’s a card to share and that’s the main point.  He he he)  The glowing yellow circle in the background is a technique I learned from my friend Zoe.

This project uses these mentionable products:

Swings ‘n Slides Coconut Shy

It’s been one of those days where I finally get everything done that I “needed” to get done but nothing that I really “wanted” to get done.  Sigh.  So this will be a short post but I wanted to share the project I created with the Swings ‘n Slides images that everyone helped me with.  I have saved the color combos on this one too but have since lost it.  Boo.  😦  However, if I ever find them then I’ll come back in and update this post to add them.  In the mean time… enjoy!

For this project I used these stamps:

Sunbonnet Fireman’s Puppy

I had so much fun coloring my last project that I decided to color another one, this one being Sunbonnet Fireman’s Puppy.  I also used some accessory stamps… Cupcakes ‘n Books (just the books but double stamped) and Birthday Sentiments. This time I colored the fireman with blues and yellows for a little mix up.

This was a quick simple boy’s card and I like that the sentiment can be interpreted different way.  The dragonflies are chipboard embellishments from Make it Crafty – always a favorite of mine!  Thanks for dropping by again and have a great weekend!

Sunbonnet Fireman’s Fire Hose

I created this project for the Anything Goes Challenge at Little Miss Muffet Stamps!  It truly is Anything Goes and we love to see what you create.  😀

That little boy is Sunbonnet Fireman’s Fire Hose rubber stamp from Little Miss Muffet Stamps.  He was so much fun to color and gave me a good excuse to use lots of red.  Because it was a boy card, I tried to keep the embellishments simple and not so fru-fru.  The dragonflies are on the border of that since their wings are lacy but the theme was appropriate for a boy so hopefully it works.

I actually made a little mistake while coloring this one up.  Can you see it?  I’ll give you a hint… I fixed it digitally on the square-on project so you can only see it in the second photo.  Do you see it now?  Yep, it’s there.  But it’s one of those things that if I hadn’t pointed it out you’d never would have seen it.  Those are the best kinds of mistakes.  LOL

Here’s a bit of something extra that might be fun for you or someone you know.  This is our rock collection that my daughter started on one of our cross-country road trips.  We were traveling over the Rocky Mountains and noticed all the different colors of soil.  So on our way back, we stopped at various places and collected a gamut of samples.

Our most recent sample is the dark reddish one which we collected while visiting New Mexico.  We’ve also been able to add a few to the collection from donations – such as the fossils.  This has been a fun activity!

Thanks for dropping by my blog today and I hope you have a wonderful week.  Make sure to add one of your projects this week into the Anything Goes Challenge and share what you’ve been up to!

Polka Dot Pals Danielle

Get ready, I have a project for you to drool over!  How do I know… cuz I’m drooling too.  LOL  This is the Linking Train scene I created last week and have put it on a journaling page.   It allowed me to use a slightly larger surface and also fit the linear size a bit better.  And true to form… I’ve added everything but the kitchen sink to the page.  Beaming!

I’ve normally skipped out on an extensive supplies list but this one needs it!  Let’s see if you can spot everything (and hopefully I didn’t leave anything off either.)
