Cookie Bugg & Autumn Bugg

It’s another Tuesday and we have a great challenge at Tiddly Inks to get your week started! The challenge for you is to create something with the theme “Sugar and Spice with a Twist!” We want you to make a sarcastic or humorous. ;D

I took this as the perfect opportunity to use a new sentiment I found from Inkadinkado – this one says “It’s fun to grow up because TV and cookies stop being bad for you.” I created a scene to go with it using Cookie Bugg for the grown up and Autumn Bugg for the little kid (the rebellious disgruntled kid, of course). Then I colored in some expressions on their faces to match.

I’d have to say I totally cracked up laughing when I saw this sentiment at the store because it was soo true and related well to recent experience. Nothing more “telling” than to have your own kids catch you in the act of grabbing an extra snack. LOL

I pulled the card together with a few embellishments: pink gingham ribbon, black gems and a couple black sequin flower centers. The background utilizes a bunch of scrap papers I had in efforts to use up some scraps.

Did you know? A Zeppelin bend (also Rosendahl bend) is a general purpose bend knot. It is a secure, easily tied, and jam-resistant way to connect two ropes. Though its simplicity and security may be matched by other bends, it is unique in the ease with which it is untied, even after heavy loading. Even though it is not very well-known, it is praised by some sources as a nearly ideal bend knot. A bend knot is a knot used to join two lengths of rope. [Zeppelin Bend, Wikipedia.org]

Sea Shells

Here’s a quick post to make up for yesterday’s project – although, it certainly wasn’t a quick card to make! LOL! I wanted to color up the new Sea Shells images from Make it Crafty and see how realistic I could get them. My daughter was studying shells the other day so I had a few ideas in mind to get started.

To get a good look of all the shells I had scanned them in before cutting them out. Here they all are without the background in the way:

Once I had them all colored it was difficult to find the “perfect” project to use them on. Luck was on my side and I found these shell chocolates in the store and was finally inspired to make a gift set for a great teacher we have this year.

I also used the Ornate Floral Scroll from Make it Crafty but removed all the flowers before printing it out. The dotted background is suppose to give the feel that the scroll is sitting on a sandy beach.

I used microbeads around the card to simulate the effects of sand. I like how these worked out on the white card. Also most of the shells are popped up with foam dots.

Here’s a good look at the tag with a few of the shells added onto it. I’m sure you’ve seen this sentiment stamp before, and along with the kids quotes, it’s one of my favorites too. I loved how it turned out and the teacher loved it too.

Main Stamp: [altered] Ornate Floral Scroll (MiC), Sea Shells (MiC), Good Day (Inkadinkado), and the barcode one

Copic Markers colored on Copy Paper:
-scroll: W4, W6, W8, E50, E51, E53, E55, R32, R37, R39, E40, E41, E42, E43, E44, E49, E57
-seashells: lots of colors, didn’t keep track

Did you know? There is a popular folk myth that holding a conch seashell to the ear can produce the sound of the ocean. However, the rushing sound that one hears is in fact the noise of the surrounding environment, including the sounds originating within the human body itself, resonating within the cavity of the shell. The same effect can be produced with any similar cavity, such as an empty cup or even by simply cupping a hand over the ear.

Did you know? The term Viking (from Old Norse víkingr) is customarily used to refer to the Norse (Scandinavian) explorers, warriors, merchants, and pirates who raided, traded, explored and settled in wide areas of Europe and the North Atlantic islands from the late 8th to the mid-11th century. These Norsemen used their famed longships to travel as far east as Constantinople and the Volga River in Russia, and as far west as Iceland, Greenland, and Newfoundland, and as far south as Al Andalus. This period of Viking expansion – known as the Viking Age – forms a major part of the medieval history of Scandinavia, Britain, Ireland and the rest of Europe in general.

Anise Soccer

Today starts a new challenge over at Little Miss Muffet Challenges and the Blog Candy winners are also announced over there today. The challenge this fortnight is tags or banners! I chose to add a Magnolia tag to my project along with Anise Soccer, a Sugar ‘n Spice Doll.

I found this cheery paper in my scraps pile so I don’t know where it came from. But it’s a high gloss double sided paper so I used both sides on the card. I love this fresh color scheme of pinks, oranges, blues and greens. I was even lucky enough to find matching Baker’s Twine! 😀

The button brads were made with an Imaginisce iTop Brad Maker – I used a punch to create the star-shaped circle then the tool to crimp the paper onto the brad. Two of the buttons use the background paper but the third one is actually the extra soccer ball that I colored with Anise! It was the perfect size for the small brad and I could resit seeing what a soccer-brad would look like! 😀

I’d like to enter this into the following challenges:

Did you know? A baker’s dozen, long dozen, or long measure is 13, one more than a standard dozen. The oldest known source, but questionable explanation for the expression “baker’s dozen” dates to the 13th century in one of the earliest English statutes, instituted during the reign of Henry III (1216–1272), called the Assize of Bread and Ale. Bakers who were found to have shortchanged customers could be subject to severe punishment. To guard against the punishment of losing a hand to an axe, a baker would give 13 for the price of 12, to be certain of not being known as a cheat. Specifically, the practice of baking 13 items for an intended dozen was insurance against “short measure”, on the basis that one of the 13 could be lost, eaten, burnt, or ruined in some way, leaving the baker with the original legal dozen.

Ginger

Check out this newest addition to the Little Miss Muffet Stamps… meet Ginger from the Sugar ‘n Spice Dolls! She’s read to help anyone feel better and bring a smiles to any patient she helps. ;D Come see what the Design Team has made for you and other new releases over at Little Miss Muffet Challenges blog!!

I had so much fun coloring her shirt and took inspiration directly from all the pediatric visits we make through out the year. The nurses area and doctors are always dressed so cheerfully that I wanted to make the shirt bright and colorful.

This is always a good layout for those scraps of paper that seam to pile up and I used a large chipboard embellishment at the top to pull it all together. I finished the card with faux stitching around the edges and a pearls in the corner.

I’d like to enter into the following challenges:

Did you know? Henna is a flowering plant used since antiquity to dye skin, hair, fingernails, leather and wool. The name is also used for dye preparations derived from the plant, and for the art of temporary tattooing based on those dyes. Additionally, the name is misused for other skin and hair dyes, such as black henna or neutral henna, which do not derive from the plant.

Anise Football

Here’s my second card today for the new releases at Little Miss Muffet Stamps! This is Anise playing football and I even colored in the black marks on the face to cut down on the sun glare.

Anise comes with all the numbers from zero to nine so this time I added #36 to her jersey. Our local team has the colors blue and white so I used those colors and placed her on a bright and cheery card.

Did you know? American Football has many different rule sets. In the United States, high school football, college football and professional football are played under slightly different rules. High school football is governed by the National Federation of State High School Associations, college football by the National Collegiate Athletic Association and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, while the major professional league is the NFL.The sport is also played in Europe, Japan and Mexico. The International Federation of American Football acts as an international governing body for the sport. American football is closely related to Canadian football but with some differences in rules and the field.
