Did you know? A cat’s whisker detector is an antique electronic component used in early crystal radios. The operator would tune the radio to a strong local station, and then adjust the cat’s whisker until the station was heard in the radio’s earphones. This required some skill and a great deal of patience; even then a good contact could easily be lost by the slightest vibration.

Pie

I made this card using Pie digi from InStyle Stamps. It’s getting that time of year again where the aroma of gingerbread and freshly baked pie are a nice welcome home in the evenings! The challenge themes were anything goes, ribbons and “Yummy, yummy, yummy!”

Did you know? Gingerbread is a term used to describe a variety of sweet food products, which can range from a soft cake to something close to a ginger biscuit. What they have in common are the predominant flavors of ginger and a tendency to use honey or molasses (treacle) rather than just sugar.

Happy Day

This week’s challenge at Wags ‘n Whiskers is to make something Spooktacular! I made this card using Happy Day and added a button in the shape of a witch’s hat to give it a Halloween feel.

Remember last week’s Wags ‘n Whiskers Blog Hop? Well, one of the hidden candies was found on my blog! I used random.org to select a commenter and the WINNER of the BLOG HOP is…

Did you know? Horse-apples (Osage-orange, Bois D’Arc, or Bodark) are from a tree or large shrub which is not an apple or orange but instead the bumpy round fruit belongs in the mulberry family. The fruit has a pleasant and mild odor, but is inedible for the most part. However, the heavy, close-grained yellow-orange wood is very dense and is prized for tool handles, treenails, fence posts, electrical insulators, and other applications requiring a strong dimensionally stable wood that withstands rot.

Did you know? The McMahon Building, the world’s littlest skyscraper located in downtown Wichita Falls, Texas, was built in 1919. Investors were swindled into purchasing a four-story edifice that was only 40 ft (480 in) tall, rather than the 480 ft (150 m) structure they were expecting. The blueprints accepted were clearly labeled as being 480″ (inches) tall and consisting of 4.0 floors.

Frankie & Alchemist Chamber

The challenge this week at Lil Lolita Boutique is to use skulls and I combined it with the 5th Day of Halloween challenge from Simply Betty Stamps using ghosts. I made this card and bookmark combo using the new Lil Haunts Frankie and set it up using the Alchemist Chamber as the background.

As a final touch, I added Crystal Effects to each bottle to make them look more like glass. Here’s the bookmark separate from he card. If I could go back, I’d trace around the yellow moon sense it’s hard to spot. 😀

Only a portion of the Alchemist Chamber was used on the card. This was my first time coloring something where the source of light was constantly in a different direction so that was an interesting challenge! I didn’t even see one of the candles until I was already on top of it – luckily I was already using a lighter color.

Did you know? The International Date Line (IDL) is a generally north-south imaginary line on the surface of the Earth, passing through the middle of the Pacific Ocean, where the date changes as a ship or airplane travels east or west across it. Crossing the IDL traveling east results in a day or 24 hours being subtracted, so that the traveler repeats the date to the west of the line.

“On the 5th day of Halloween my Ghoul love gave to me… five flying ghosts whispering in the wind!”
Update: I made the top eight at Simply Betty Stamps for this challenge!
