Little Elf with Present

The challenge this week at The Stamping Bazaar is to create a card or project based on the inspirational sketch provided. I made this card using Little Elf with Present designed by the fabulous Marina Neira. I knew my paper was going to be busy so I colored the image in black and white to focus the attention on this cute little elf.

The other challenge themes are Christmas w/bling (charms & pins), anything goes and make something special for someone.

Did you know? Every year in October, fainting goats are honored in Marshall County, Tennessee at the “Goats Music and More Festival”. A fainting goat is a breed of domestic goat whose muscles freeze for roughly 10 seconds when the goat is startled. Though painless, this generally results in the animal collapsing on its side. Fainting goats have many other names, including Myotonic Goats, Tennessee (Meat) Goats, Nervous Goats, Stiff-leg Goats, Wooden-leg Goats, and Tennessee Scare Goats.

Knight Charlie

In an effort to make more boy cards, I used Knight Charlie from Whiff of Joy and backdropped him with a mighty fortress, the Sandstone Citadel from Make it Crafty. However, by adding the stitching and ribbon I think it was disqualified in the true-boy card division. None the less, it was another fun card to make!

This castle is so much fun to color and I can see it done in the colors of Disney’s castle or the one from Beauty & The Beast movie – both great for a princess! Again I used the shimmering paper to give it an added sparkle!

The challenge themes entered were an Anything Goes and Feeling Blue (use the color blue).

Did you know? A castle is a type of fortified structure built in Europe and the Middle East during the Middle Ages. Scholars debate the scope of the word castle, but usually consider it to be the private fortified residence of a lord or noble. This is distinct from a fortress, which was not a home, and from a fortified town, which was a public defense, though there are many similarities between these types of construction. The term has been popularly applied to structures as diverse as hill forts and country houses.

Tom’s Plea

GIVE THANKSTHREE WAYS
Jump down to see Cassandra’s Thank You and Lydia’s Thank You cards.

Sometimes sharing my supplies is difficult but I’m always thankful that my daughters want to stamp and color with me. I cringe each time they “discover” something new (solely because of the pocket book) but at the same time I’m thrilled they were able to watch me and learn something new! In the split second it takes me to decide, I usually buckle in and let them create freely… because in the end, I really am thankful! So check out their cards below and they’ll be reading any comments left personally for them.

I made my card using Tom’s Plea from High Hopes. The sign originally read “Go Vegan” but I removed it from the stamp so I could write anything. Each of our cards was entered into the 7 Kids College Fund Give Thanks challenge.

Cassandra used Harvest Mice from High Hopes and created this thank you card for her Nana and Poppy. She’s been spending all week with me recovering from tonsillectomy and even though she’s in a little pain it’s been fun having her stay home from school. She did all the coloring and assembly herself and only wanted help cutting out the image. She even used foam dots to “make it more beautiful!”

Lydia got to use Belles ‘n Whistles Rockin’ Around by Elisabeth Bell to make her thank you card. We’ve been spending more time at Grandma’s house helping out and the added bonus to playing in her craft room! She selected all the elements and put together the card all by herself (with help cutting out the image) and left the girl uncolored because “it makes her pretty.”

Did you know? A tonsillectomy is a 3,000 year-old surgical procedure in which the tonsils are removed from either side of the throat. Sometimes the adenoids are removed at the same time, a procedure called adenoidectomy. Although tonsillectomy is being performed less frequently than in the 1950s, it remains one of the most common surgical procedures in children in the United States.

Shy Willow

I made this card using Shy Willow and Fall Grass, both from Whiff of Joy, as a reminder for the Lollipop Crafts Girlie Girl Challenge. This week’s theme is piratically anything girl which includes cards with a girl, for a girl or look girlie girl. The other challenge entered was for three of somethings – the three flowers.

Did you know? United States Department of Defense directive 5230.16, Nuclear Accident and Incident Public Affairs Guidance as set out in Air Force Instruction 10-206 detail a number of terms for internally and externally reporting nuclear incidents. Some of these terms include Bent Spear, Broken Arrow, Empty Quiver, Faded Giant and Dull Sword.

Did you know? In the poem “The Queen of Hearts”, the titular queen bakes some tarts, which are then stolen by the Knave of Hearts. The King of Hearts has the Knave punished, so he brings them back and pledges not to steal again. The poem was published anonymously in 1782, along with three lesser-known stanzas, all about characters based on playing cards.
