I have a story to share… back when my Mom and I started the Blog Candy we were keeping our fingers crossed that our goals would be met. Little did I know that one thing would lead to another and I would start drawing again! But from everyone’s wonderful comments and words of encouragement, I am please to announce a new venue:

It’s my last week on the design team and I’m hosting this week to commemorate all the friends we make online, new and old. I made this card using A Lollipop for Suzan by Sarah Kay because it reminded me of several things… friendship and my own daughters.

Did you know? Sunflower are large flowering plants native to the Americas. They most commonly grow to heights between 5 and 11 ft (1.5 and 3.5 m), although the tallest known sunflower reached 39 ft (12 m) high. The Sunflower is a “composite flower” composed of numerous small flowers crowded together. The florets in the center’s cluster are arranged in a spiral pattern and will mature into seeds. The seeds are used as snack food, expeller pressed into sunflower oil, made into sunbutter (a peanut butter alternative), or milled into flour.

I Do

I found some foil paper in the bottom of my stash and thought it would make a perfect elegant wedding card. I used Anya from the I Do set and embellished the card with black rosette ribbon, two heart head pins and two decorative wedding rings (in the upper right corner).

Did you know? Temple Israel is a Reform Jewish congregation in Memphis, Tennessee. It is the only Reform synagogue in Memphis, the oldest and largest Jewish congregation in Tennessee, and one of the largest Reform congregations in the United States. It was founded in 1853 by mostly German Jews as Congregation B’nai Israel (Hebrew for “Children of Israel”).

Geeky Love

Welcome to another challenge at Make it Colourful where this week we challenge you to color on something other than white paper! I took on the task and choose to color on fabric… yes, fabric! While I was trying to figure out what kind of card I could make to best show off the fabric as fabric… I decided a small handbag would be even better!

I borrowed some fabric sheets from my Mom and started following the instructions. (See EQ Printables Inject Fabric Sheets for those details.) However, I started to worry abou the Copic markers getting wet or even heated with the iron so I didn’t make it very far with the instructions. I can say that the iron appears to do nothing to the Copic markers. I’ll have to try water at a different time.

Here’s a detailed shot of the fabric and you can see how I’m coloring directly onto the fabric. There are no transfer sheets involved and because it was fabric, I had to go easy with the markers. (Holding my breath was a contributing factor!)

The size of the handbag is small but I’ve found several items that conveniently fit in it! It was intended as a Valentines gift so a a regular size bag of Hershey’s Chocolate Kisses fit nicely. However, I’ve also discovered that a travel size baby wipe container plus one or two diapers will also fit – great for church or a short babysitting trip. And lastly, my youngest daughter demonstrated that her baby doll fits perfectly and is completely content to stay there! LOL!

When sewing my handbags, I like to tuck and sew the corners slightly so the bag will stand upright on it’s own. I’m sure there is a fancy trick to doing it so the seem doesn’t show but I usually do this task very last just before turning the bag right-side out. Below is a picture of the empty handbag laying down next to the Hershey’s candy bag for scale.

Did you know? The People’s Republic of China (PRC), commonly known as China, is the most populous state in the world with over 1.3 billion people, approximately 20% of the world’s population. The ancient Chinese civilization—one of the world’s earliest—flourished in the fertile basin of the Yellow River which flows through the North China Plain. For more than 6,000 years, China’s political system was based on hereditary monarchies (also known as dynasties). The first of these dynasties was the Xia (approx 2000BC) and the last dynasty, the Qing, ended in 1911 with the founding of the Republic of China.

Did you know? The Silver Gull is the most common gull seen in Australia. It is found throughout the continent, having adapted well to urban environments and thriving around shopping centers and garbage dumps. The Silver Gull should not be confused with the Herring Gull , which is called “silver gull” in many other languages.
