Cupids & Tree of Love

I made this card a while ago and have been waiting for February to show it off! All the images are from Make it Crafty including the Tree of Love in the background. These fun cupids also decorate my blog… see if you can spot all three!

The card has a lot of action to it so I “grounded” it with a large embellishment grouping on the lower corner. The grouping is an ensemble of my favorite things… lace, head pins, laser cut chipboard (also painted with Liquid Pearls) and finally a charm. I could have added a few more, but the card was getting heavy. 😀 I also distressed the decorative paper in the background and used lots of foam dots to “lift” some areas.

Now that all the Valentine and love challenges are out there, I thought I’d make an effort to get this one in to as many challenges as possible… to stack them up! This might be one of the few Valentine cards I make so we’ll see if I’m lucky enough to get any top picks. I think my average winning percentage is less than 1/2% so I’m just sharing for the enjoyment. ;D Here’s a view of the background in full…

Did you know? The term “gizzard” can refer to the general guts, innards or entrails of animals, however, it is an organ found in the digestive tract of some animals, including birds, reptiles, earthworms and some fish. This specialized stomach constructed of thick, muscular walls is used for grinding up food; often rocks are also instrumental in this process. In certain insects and mollusks, the gizzard features chitinous plates or teeth. In some bird species, undigested parts of the food (including bones, fur, feathers, bills, claws and teeth) are formed together and passed back up into the stomach to be regurgitated, better known as pellets or casting.

Butterfly Baby Girl

Yeah – it’s another weekend! We’ve had four days in a row with no school because of “Snow Day” cancellations so it’s been a great week to relax. Today is another day for a Make it Colourful challenge and this time we’re challenging you to mix your colors… blue and purple to be exact! I made my card using Butterfly Baby Girl from Karen’s Doodles and behind it I added Sheepish Rainbow by Make it Crafty.

Most of my blending is found right in the center with the flowers, dress and butterflies. The flowers were first colored purple then blue was added – and the dress was the opposite, colored blue first then purple was added. I felt they turned out too similar but also tried blending purples/blue with pinks in the butterflies.

Here’s the complete view of the background, Sheepish Rainbow, before most of it was covered. I had originally wanted the rainbow without the sheep, but in the end it turned out perfect. Growing up, I helped my parents raise sheep and bottle feed the lambs in our backyard until they were old enough to send out in the pasture. It was fun and those little lambs were so cute.

Did you know? The genus Tyto includes all barn-owls except for the bay-owls – that is, the true barn-owls, the grass-owls and the masked-owls collectively making up the subfamily Tytoninae. Tyto owls tend to be larger than Bay-owls. The barn-owls’ main characteristic is the heart-shaped facial disc, formed by stiff feathers which serve to amplify and locate the source of sounds when hunting. Further adaptations in the wing feathers eliminate sound caused by flying, aiding both the hearing of the owl listening for hidden prey and keeping the prey unaware of the owl.

Did you know? Goblin Valley is a State Park in central Utah, in the western United States. Its eminent feature is its thousands of hoodoos and hoodoo rocks, which are formations of mushroom-shaped rock pinnacles, some as high as several meters. The distinct shape of these rocks comes from an erosion-resistant layer of rock atop softer sandstone. A portion of the movie Galaxy Quest was filmed here featuring the rock monster.

Monster Balloons

Here’s a bright and cheery card featuring my new stamp, Monster Balloons. This time I colored him in an ice blue with chocolate spots and sherbet colored balloons. Yummy! 😀 This card is a reminder for two challenges, the first is Lollipop Crafts, who I’ve sponsored this week, and for my own 2nd Challenge. Hope you can come along and play in both!

Challenge: Make it Crafty – Australia Day Challenge (Aussie Slang Interpretation)

Have you ever heard the term “Well I’ll be buggered!” recently? You probably think it has to do with a water dam, and perhaps you’re right, however, we’re talking about Australia here. This term is of utmost importance and may one day safeguard your most treasured secrets against espionage. It all started back in 1818 when it was primarily used by corporations and the government, and was a key signal to disrupt confidential conversations if someone suspected an eavesdropper. Today it is widely used in much the same way and does wonders to baffle all those involved. So the next time you’re discussing family secrets with your hubby and you suspect your kids are listen in, then just take a deep strong breath and shout “Well I’ll be buggered!”

Did you know? Within Australia’s Organ Pipes National Park, there are 400 million year old volcanic geological formations, most notable the hexagonal basalt columns known as the “Organ Pipes”. These are set in a vertically standing formation, in layers, as if thickly welded together. The rock formation emerged as the result of slow cutting of a deep valley in the basaltic plains over several centuries by the Maribyrnong River. Study of the fossils in volcanic rock formations have been inferred as sedimentary rocks that got buried under the sea about 400 million years ago.

Update: My definition was a top pick at Make it Crafty with this challenge!

Challenge #2 – Anything Goes

Hi Everyone! Welcome to the 2nd Challenge of Forgotten Scraps featuring my new digital stamps at Little Miss Muffet Designs! Because I opened the store yesterday, this actually feels more like the 1st challenge therefore to commemorate the “grand opening” the theme will be “ANYTHING GOES”.

Of course, our sponsor for this challenge is Little Miss Muffet Designs! 😀 One lucky winner using a stamp from the store will receive TWO stamps of their choice – and I might even have a few new stamps added by then! In addition, the Top Three picks will be selected from all the entries!

Little Miss Muffet Designs
These challenges will be run bimonthly, starting on the 2nd & 16th of the month and ending on the 14th & Last day of the month, respectively. So this current challenge starts February 2nd and will end on February 14th.

The theme is ANYTHING GOES and there are separate rules if you use one of my stamps or another company’s stamp. The winning prize will be drawn amongst those who use a Little Miss Muffet Designs but the Top Three will be selected amongst all the entries.

And what is a challenge without a some visual inspiration? Here’s what my Mom and I have created for you to enjoy!

Barbara (me)

You may have already figured it out that you can use any stamp to particaly particpate. Keep in mind that you may only enter once OR you can enter as many times as you like IF you use a Little Miss Muffet Designs.

Projects must be new, with no back linking, and include a link to this challenge post. Remember to link up your entry directly and not just to your main blog page. You can combine your entry with as many other challenges as you’d like.

Our Design Team is small right now so if you’d like comments please make sure word verification is turned off. (Psst… there will be a DT Call in the future so you can view February challenges as extra browny-points! Mmm, I love brownies! LOL)

Good luck and we can’t wait to see what you create!!

Christmas Dino

Welcome to the 2nd challenge at Forgotten Scraps, hosted here, and featuring new digi stamps from Little Miss Muffet Designs, my own creation! I made this card using Christmas Dino but wanted to show it was equally suiting for a boy’s Birthday! I loved plush toys when I was growing up so drawing them comes naturally to me – I normally just have to think about one of my own toys! LOL

Did you know? In the context of social invitations, RSVP is a request for a response from the invited person. It is an initialization derived from the French phrase répondez s’il vous plaît, meaning “Please respond”. The writings of Emily Post, high society England in the late 20th century, states that “Anyone receiving an invitation with an R.S.V.P on it is obliged to reply….”, and some recent editions describe breaching this standard as “inexcusably rude”.

Update: I’m the winner at Guylou’s Inimitability for this challenge!
