Summer Breeze

I made this card featuring Summer Breeze, designed by yours truly, and hope to have Spring Whisper released and previewed tomorrow. 😀 For this card, I created a scene using two Make it Crafty images and basically colored the whole card.

I was working on this card while my Mom was cutting up cotton shirts for another project and I snatched some of the scraps to make the bow. I kept the rest of the card pretty simple to keep the attention on the images.

Most of the time I color withing a specific hue range, for example, the hair is colored with E50, E51, and E53. However, I wanted to try a new technique for the tree and colored it using a mixture of hues. I started out laying down a basic color and shadow then built up the colors one layer at a time. The more layers I applied, the lighter I kept the colors. It was interesting to see how the browns changed colors and the end result gives the shadows a different color than the lights.

Fun Challenge: Make it Crafty – Australia Day Challenge (Aussie Slang Interpretation)

Here’s a warning to empty your mouth and put your drink down before reading on… I’m going to “give it another try” for Zoe’s Aussie slang interpretation and define “give it a burl.” Ok, that’s enough laughing for now, you can pick up your drink again. ;D Here’s my definition…

Give it a burl: This is a common tactic used in debates to help speed up a resolution. When all hope is lost and you’re about to loose, you “give it a burl” or in other terms “throw in a monkey wrench” (just say something totally unrelated and absubtly rediculous) and then enjoy your opponents reaction.

Did you know? The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) formed in 1970, is one of eight Independent System Operators in North America. The ERCOT region occupies the entire Texas Interconnection, which occupies nearly all of the state of Texas. Unlike the other major NERC interconnections, the high voltage transmission and energy market within the Texas Interconnection is operated by ERCOT as essentially a single power system instead of as a network of cooperating utility companies.

Cupcake Ruby

Here’s another card I made with my extra time today playing in the craft room. I used Cupcake Ruby and wanted to make more of a class card yet still keeping it fancy and cute. Basically my strategy was to use gray and creams, with a little bit of yellow, and finish up with a bunch of embellishments and sparkling Stickles Glitter Glue for good measure.

Did you know? Electric power transmission or “high voltage electric transmission” is the bulk transfer of electrical energy, from generating power plants to substations located near to population centers. This is distinct from the local wiring between high voltage substations and customers, which is typically referred to as electricity distribution. Transmission lines, when interconnected with each other, become high voltage transmission networks. In the US, these are typically referred to as “power grids” or just “the grid”, while in the UK the network is known as the “national grid.” North America has three major grids: The Western Interconnection; The Eastern Interconnection and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (or ERCOT) grid.

Racing Rick

This week’s challenge at Make it Colourful is to color with Smooth Gradients which basically means to color with lots of blending so you can’t tell where one color ends and the other begins. This was easier for me to do in the larger areas and more difficult in the smaller parts like the hair. This is also a sneak peek of Racing Rick from Make it Crafty.

Did you know? Watson is an artificial intelligence program developed by the corporation IBM, designed to answer questions posed in natural language. During 2011, Watson competed on the television quiz show Jeopardy! as a test of its abilities against two of the show’s most successful contestants. Watson received the first prize of $1 million and IBM divided the winnings between two charities. This was the first human-versus-machine competition in Jeopardy!’s history. Watson had access to 200 million pages of structured and unstructured content consuming four terabytes of hard disk storage and was not connected to the Internet during the game.

Sammy with Ball

I can’t believe it’s Friday already and really don’t know where my week has gone. ;D This week at The Stamping Bazaar we have fun challenge for you and the theme is “Spots and Stripes.” I used decorative paper for the stripes and lots of amber gems for the dots. Also for something different, I stamped and colored Sammy on Kraft paper for more of a weathered look.

Did you know? Stardust is a 300-kilogram robotic space probe launched by NASA on February 7, 1999 to study the asteroid 5535 Annefrank and collect samples from the coma of comet Wild 2. The primary mission was completed January 15, 2006, when the sample return capsule returned to earth. Operating for 12 years and 11 days, Stardust intercepted comet Tempel 1 on February 15, 2011, a small Solar System body previously visited by Deep Impact on July 4, 2005.

Rio Birthday Girl

This is one of those last minute submissions into the Simply Betty Stamps Challenge – I’ve been thinking it’s been Wednesday ALL day today!! So somehow I missed a day in my week and thankfully it wasn’t a Saturday. ;D The challenge this week is to make an all white card except for the coloring.

My strategy was to get all my white items out on the counter and then start putting it together. Because it was mostly white, I wanted to keep the coloring as light as possible so I chose more soft-toned colors and tried to keep some white highlights. One of the things I added was a small note that gets tucked inside a velum envelope on the card.

Did you know? Deep Impact is a NASA space probe launched on January 12, 2005. It was designed to study the composition of the comet interior of 9P/Tempel, by releasing an impactor into the comet. Previous space missions to comets, such as Giotto and Stardust, were fly-by missions. These missions were only able to photograph and examine the surfaces of cometary nuclei from a distance. The Deep Impact mission was the first to eject material from a comet’s surface, and the mission garnered large publicity from the media, international scientists, and amateur astronomers.
