I was inspired by the Loads of Fun washing machine set and thought it would be funny to have a spinning load of socks – all of them mismatched, of course. So when I spotted the Reveal Wheel, I knew that was the combination I needed. The trick was to combine the shaker card idea with the wheel. What I thought was going to be easy ended up taking forever. But it worked and it’s so fun to play with.
To make this a shaker card, I used the spinning wheel die to cut the top and bottom layers from white card stock. Then a third time from thin double-stick foam. The top cardstock layer was cut with a circle die that I also used on the washing machine. This allowed me to assemble a wheel part just like any other shaker. However, don’t forget to add the brad into the bottom layer before sealing it up.
Once the shaker wheel was figured out, I put the rest of the card together with foam tape and arranged my colored images to top. I made sure I used lots of socks. This was also my the debut of my first Purple Onion Designs stamp – that turtle reading was the perfect little critter to wait for the laundry to finish.
This is sweetness! At least for Louisa it is. For this project, I’ve used the stamp set Polka Dot Pals Louisa and the coordinating accessory stamps to create this scene. The Polka Dot Pals Louisa set comes the sentiment and coordinating stamps that I used to create this scene. I stamped the character and milk shake first to mask them off then stamped the table, stool, soda and sentiment. I added the bottom portion of the table and the tile flooring using a ruler. Then I also added the mirror behind the soda bottles the same way. The face came from the Polka Dot Pals Mason set
I wasn’t sure how I wanted to color the character yet so I worked on the background first. I especially wanted to color the soda pop because the colors I used there would be important to my color choices for the girl.
In the end, I chose yellow, brown and dark brown. The yellow was so that she would stand out more and tie in with the sentiment; the brown was to coordinate with the cola and root beer flavors, and the dark brown was to also help her stand out more. If I was to do it again, I would have saved the sentiment for last and also done that in a chocolate color. Perhaps a neon-light would have been a good challenge!
The card was finished by using the Card Builder Windows Die. I outside part was used with 1/8″ foam tape and I thought that made it feel like looking through a window. Then the inside was placed directly on the card base. Lastly, I reached for my white pen to add some highlights and sparkle.
And now for something entirely different… a game of basket-boom! Oh yes, it’s played on the most festive occasions such as patriotic day and new year’s eve. This one gets played often high up in the rocky mountains as you can tell by the permanent explosion marks on the ground. The only draw back is that it requires a new hoop. Bummer.
This is an original creation that was inspired by my recycle bin. I had found the beginnings of a drawing that included a head, two arms and the bomb. What was that doing in there? Well that looked interesting! So I pulled it out and continued to draw in the rest of the image and this was the result.
I had fun coloring this image too. I used the bright colors for the fireworks and the gremlin then muted colors for the rest of the scenery. The explosion marks on the ground make me chuckle and tells a good story. So, who’s up for the next game of basket-boom?
Sometime little notes are needed which I have made a few. They have been quick to put together and I’ve enjoyed using the simple images from Lawn Fawn. This one for example – I stamped the characters in black which makes coloring very quick and less time consuming that no-lines coloring. Plus these little notes are a great way to brighten up someone’s day.
I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore. Nope, I went outside and it still looks and feels like Texas. However, I still had the feeling I should color up Polka Dot Pals Vera as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz featuring blue plaid prints and ruby red slippers from the iconic movie. She was fun to color.
Since Polka Dot Pals Verawas taking a closer look at the world below, I colored the background without a blue sky. I added details like grass, clover and leaves on the bushes. After it was colored, I die cut the maze out using the Slide On Over Maze Die and the Card Builder Windows Die.
When coloring, I kept to the cool colors of green, blue and purple so that it would feel uniformed in theme. I wanted the girl to stand out the most too and her shoes help draw your attention as well. The mechanics of the card use the maze die and then the butterfly can be moved around the top track and the snail can be moved around the lower part of the track.
Sometimes designer papers are too cute to cover up and that was the case for this page. Instead of covering it with an image, I decided to stamp on a sentiment, add some glitter glue, and call it good. I think it will make an adorable baby card for someone.
The glitter glue was used on the clouds and the bow to give a little sparkle. However, this didn’t need much so I stopped there. I could have used a stitched-border die and a few gems, which would also be cute, but I like that it was a fast and simple card to put together.
