Polka Dot Pals Brooke Reflecting DCS

Two new digital coloring scenes were release today and I’m pleased to tempt you with this one – Polka Dot Pals Brook Reflecting Digital Coloring Scene. You know you want one now, right?! I printed it on Hammermill paper in a light gray so I could have the no-lines look. As I was coloring the purple flowers (which are called Alliums) I thought I would make that my focal point so I decided to add a few more in the background.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure I would enjoy these digital coloring scenes. I’m a skeptical kinda person but I’ve come to really like them. Now when I craft with family or friends, (or out camping) I don’t have to pack a trunk full. And at my Mom’s where I can use her markers, I just have to take the printed scene. It’s been soooo nice!
I always have a hard time including purple in my projects because I don’t see that I’m coordinating colors very well. It’s a me thing, totally. For some reason, that color really stands out like a sore thumb. However, I’m getting better and finding combinations that are easier on the eyes.

Polka Dot Pals Kezia

I couldn’t resist another cotton candy transformation and swapped the ice cream cone for some fluffy cotton candy. This is Polka Dot Pals Kezia and she’s a new release. The set comes with lots of fun accessories including a cute little dog. I then used the face from Polka Dot Pals Khadija and added some background details through creative color placement.

I colored this project on Desert Storm paper and stared out with my Copic markers. Then I came back in with some pencils to refine a few areas on her face, shirt and skirt. The background was penciled in. Then the black was colored with Copics and the rest with colored pencils, The shine was added with a white Posca pen.
The cotton ball for candy floss is the best part and it sticks out from the card and looks so fluffy. I used two cotton balls and glued it to my project in small sections to create the swirl. I thin this one turned out better than the last one but I think that’s mostly contributed to the cone – the last one had a stick and I like the cone shape better.

Polka Dot Pals Kezia

Welcome to the neighborhood – it’s time for a jog! Catch up with this musical van to get your scrumptious treats today. If you miss it, however, head on over to Whimsy Stamps and order this adorable set, Polka Dot Pals Kezia, which was released today. I’ve also used the house from Polka Dot Pals Vera to create this fun summer scene.

After stamping the truck and houses, I used a black multi-liner pen and ruler to draw in the sidewalk. From there it was about coloring the scene. I start with what I knew – the greenery, sidewalk and roadway. Then I colored the truck and then the houses. Not sure if the colors work the best.
These stamps, the truck, ice cream, houses and sentiments, are accessory stamps in the Polka Dot Pals sets. They’re just as much fun to use as the characters.

The Mailbox

I liked the full size background of this stamp so much that I needed to make a second card. This is The Mailbox rubber stamp by DoveArt Studios and available at Whimsy Stamps. The color scheme on this one was so that the flowers, Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja coccinea), would stand out the most.

I colored the bird as Northern Parulas which matched well with the letter in the mailbox and the house. Another thing I did was to extend the stamp size in height and width. So the extra set of windows on the house and the top part of the trees were added through creative color placement. It might have been easier to add to the other side but I wanted more of the house so I took the time on that side.
The sentiment is a chipboard embellishment from Make it Crafty and I happily have a stash that I can pull from. However, there are some chipboard embellishments available at Whimsy Stamps. This one comes in two layers which Make it Crafty was the trend setter of this style. I colored the top layer with my Copic markers in the same color as the flowers.

Polka Dot Pals Fern Grassland Ponder DCS

I had the chance to color up another digital coloring scene from Whimsy Stamps. This is Polka Dot Pals Fern Grassland Ponder. I started with creative color placement and changed the style of the hair. Then I colored the face and moved to the background. I wasn’t sure what color to do her clothes yet so I waited to see what was needed. This is how she turned out.

I cut the scene out with the Wonky Stitches Rectangle die and then layered it on black then white cardstock. As finishing touches, I added some Liquid Pearls and white dots to represent flowers in the foreground.
I don’t work with purple very often so I was worried this wouldn’t work well. But I blended the sunset with peaches and warm yellows which worked out better than the last time I tried.

Polka Dot Pals and Paper Doll Marci

This project combines the Paper Doll Marci Sweetheart character with a new face from Polka Dot Pals Mason and fun background elements from Polka Dot Pals Vera – plus a whole lot of creative color placement makes this one unique card.

I stamped the character in black but before I did that, I wiped away the face with a cotton swab. This allowed me to use an Add-on Face from one of the Polka Dot Pals sets and I chose the one from Polka Dot Pals Mason. When I stamped that face, I also wiped away the mouth so I could color my own in.
This little girl has bubble powers so she’s have a bright cheery day in the backyard. Wouldn’t that be fun to be able to produce bubbles from your hands? The sentiment is a light chipboard and easy to color with the Copic markers so I colored it similar to the bubbles and tied it in with the theme that way. To help it stand out, I did the second layer with black.
The hat is actually part of the doll’s hair. That was a lot of hair so I decide she’d be perfect with a little beanie hat. Because I wanted to go with something bright, and I recently learned about Nooglers at Google, I went with a propeller beanie. Other creative color placement includes the mouth, extra hair, bubbles, pool and pool toys.
This is what the character looked like before the transformation using creative color placement.
