Annabelle

The challenge this fortnight at Make it Colourful is to color sheer or see through clothing. My first attempt was to color Annabella from Make it Crafty. The lower part of the skirt and the fabric around the arm were indented to me sheer. I colored the arm and wire frame first then lightly went over with E40, E41, E42, and E43 to manage a sheer look.

As for a challenge, I wasn’t completely satisfied with my effect so I gave it another go. This time I found Ben in the Rain by Whiff of Joy and thought I could give him a clear raincoat and umbrella. It was on this image that I discovered the techniques of coloring are pretty similar to “coloring with no lines” challenge.

The third image is Marissa Fairy by Paper Makeup Stamps and her skirt turned out to be a great dance cover. Again, I colored the skin and leotard first then lightly went in with the pink in the shaded areas. Some areas were darker than I wanted to so that’s where I used the Blender Pen to lighten it up.

In the end, the hardest part about this challenge was to find a viable image to work on without coloring someone naked! Maybe I need to look for more images… sounds like a good excuse to me to go shopping! 😀 Next week I should have these images on a project.

Peppermint as Red Riding Hood

Welcome to another challenge day at Little Miss Muffet Challenges where our theme for this fortnight is “Summer!” There is also a DT Call going on… so if you like Little Miss Muffet Stamps then head on over to submit an entry! Challenge and DT Call closes on Tuesday, August 2nd.

On my project I used “Peppermint as Red Riding Hood” from Little Miss Muffet Stamps and Spring Meadow from Whiff of Joy. What? I know, can you believe I didn’t use a Make it Crafty background this time!! But don’t worry, I made up for it with the chippies. ;D Plus I’ve got to get *some* mileage out of the Spring Kit before it collects too much dust. LOL

I think the papers are Sugar Rish from Basic Gray and the twill ribbon and pearls are from Stampin’ Up. I had this image colored up a while ago and so it was fun to be able to grab something and create a page in my journal right away. Although I did have to pause to color the background – but that wasn’t so bad.

I love the deep reds I was able to get with the hood. Usually reds show up too bright on film so this is a new combination I tried out. I starts with the expected reds, R22, R24, and R27, but then I jumped down and used R46 and R59 to darken it up. Another combination I find successful is R21, R14, R24, R37, R46 and R59.

I also used a new combination with the lighter color greens in the background – this time I used G40, G82, G85 and G99 which I like better than the G20s range.

I’d like to enter into the following challenges:
Scrapalicious USA Challenge #12 – anything summer
Flutter By Wednesday’s #163 – open theme
Craft-room Challenge – butterflies (just for fun)
Deep Ocean Challenge #4 – ribbons
Simon Says Stamp – newspaper (framing background image)

Hope you’ve enjoyed this page in the summer journal and come on over to check out the other girl’s inspiration for the Summer challenge!

Kids’ Creations

My kids love to create along side of me and have really gotten into the spirit of challenges! They like to follow along in my footsteps and often ask what the challenge I’m making a specific card for. ;D So here are a few of their creations that they wanted to show off…

WoJ Clown

Last week for the Make it Colourful challenge I colored the Circus Tent… but it turns out we forgot our tickets! So this week we’re heading back to the entrance to visit the Ticket Booth! This week our challenge is to color skies… and yes, there is a sky located under all the embellishments. 😀 Honest!

This cute clown is from Whiff of Joy and looked friendly enough that I had to have it for this Carnival collection. ;D The sky was done in a winds pattern which I had tried out before (on the Wacky House) and loved how it turned out. Here’s a picture of the sky before the Carnival “opened.”

Did you know? Opal is an amorphous form of silica related to quartz, a mineraloid form, not a mineral. 3% to 21% of the total weight is water, but the content is usually between 6% to 10%. It is deposited at a relatively low temperature and may occur in the fissures of almost any kind of rock, being most commonly found with limonite, sandstone, rhyolite, marl and basalt. 97% of opal is produced in Australia and is its national gemstone.

Dare to Dream

I finally got around to working with the new Spring Kit from Whiff of Joy featuring Elisabeth Bell stamps and I used Dare to Dream on this card. I saw a card in a magazine that displayed a picture frame using an embossed metal sheet with a monogram. I thought that would be a perfect idea for a card and that’s how I came up with this one. The DT Call challenge was to make these fun flowers.

Did you know? Leave It to Beaver was a 1950s and 1960s family-oriented American television situation comedy about an inquisitive but often naïve boy named Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver (portrayed by Jerry Mathers) and his adventures at home, in school, and around his suburban neighborhood. The show also starred Barbara Billingsley and Hugh Beaumont as Beaver’s parents, June and Ward Cleaver, and Tony Dow as Beaver’s brother Wally. The show has attained an iconic status in the United States, with the Cleavers exemplifying the idealized suburban family of the mid-twentieth century.

Update: I was the selected winner at Paper Sundaes for this challenge!

Charlotte Riding Reindeer

I made this card using Charlotte Riding Reindeer from Whiff of Joy and went with a soft color pallet for a Christmas Card. I always love the blue frost and baby pink combination for winter. ;D I chose to go with non-traditional holiday papers because it worked, and also because my holiday papers are already stashed away.

Main Stamp: Charlotte Riding Reindeer (WoJ)
Patterned Paper: Olivia (BG)
Metal Die: Spellbinders Nestabilities Labels Ten

Did you know? George Vernon Hudson (1867-1946) was an English-born New Zealand entomologist. By the age of 14 he had already built up a collection of British insects, and had published a paper in The Entomologist. Hudson is credited with inventing modern-day daylight saving time. His shift-work job gave him leisure time to collect insects, and led him to value after-hours daylight. In 1895 he presented a paper to the Wellington Philosophical Society proposing a two-hour daylight-saving shift, and after considerable interest was expressed in Christchurch, New Zealand he followed up in an 1898 paper. Hudson’s collection of insects is housed in the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
