Hola señora Frida Kahlo

This is not who you think it is… really, it’s not! This is Polka Dot Pals Colton clear set that I stamped in a light color of ink then colored him using creative color placement. Colton is going to be one of the images we use in the Sproatmeyer Coloring Toolbox Retreat this October and I’m excited to talk about transforming your stamps like this. If you haven’t signed up, there is still room and still time to get on the list. We’re going to go over loads of stuff for you to put in your coloring toolbox of knowledge. This will be a retreat like no other and I’m so excited to share my knowledge and talent with y’all.

More party balloons

Here’s more party balloons and these ones have faces on them – so cute! I wanted to make a bright and cheery card using the Party Animal Balloons stamp set which also has a coordinating Party Animal Balloons Outline die set. I started out with a basic background and added some texture with the cheese cloth. Then the fun part began as I stamped and colored up those adorable party animals – I loved using bright colors! Lastly I used the sentiment from the set to finish it off.

The rainbow is at the end

This is the fifth and final day of my boho journey using the new boho products from the mini release this week. At first I had no clue what boho was or how to design in it so I dived right into an exploration. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading the journey with me and that I’ve inspired you. Today’s card is sort of an homage to this week by choosing the traditional rainbow. It never failed that wherever I searched for boho this style of rainbow would pop up.

Understanding finally arrived

This is day four of my boho journey and I think I’m finally getting the hang of it. Further searching for what boho really is, I found someone that simply defined it as aspects that “embrace the natural and are handmade.” Basically I needed to have elements of nature such as flowers, feathers, water, leaves, branches, rocks, or whatever from nature. It could also be animals, trees, waterfalls, and whatnot. The other half was to make it by hand – check! That one was easy. So my goal for this card was to merge more of the boho style that I’ve learned together with my own style. I wanted it to have nature, randomness and bold shapes/color. I think I nailed it and I really like how this card turned out.

What is Boho?

Well if you ask me, I have no idea how to define Boho let alone design cards in that style so this was a real stretch for me. Searching for “boho art” online, I would guess it meant large bold shapes, muted colors that are close on the color wheel, some line sketches and a bit abstract. So that’s what I went for and came up with this design. The hardest part was I really want to use my new Flower Tiles stamps so that was kind of a monkey wrench. This will be a journey for me so day one was about what I saw. How do you think I did?

Is this Lake Michigan?

I had the the opportunity to drive around Lake Michigan this summer (in fact, I’m still on that same vacation but just a little closer to home). We mainly drove on the east side and tried to take as many lighthouse tours as we could and playing along the beach. Even though the water was C-O-L-D, the kids still enjoyed getting in and walking along the beach. So this card reminds me of all that and couldn’t be a better card to post at this time. I love all the elements and details – it makes it feel timeless like capturing one of our moments.
