Emo Valentines Lola

Two hours isn’t a lot of time and was just enough to de-bone a ham hock in preparation for dinner… ham and bean soup. One of the simpler meals in my cookbook but one that also gives me more time to color! 😀 And if you’re wondering, yes, I did stay up all night to finish these. 😀 Of course, it didn’t help that I started at 10:00pm to begin with!

Did you know? Valentine is a city in Cherry County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 2,820 at the 2000 census. Recently Valentine was nearly destroyed two years in a row due to a disastrous wind storm and then the “Big Rock Fire” the next year. However, in 2007, National Geographic Adventure magazine included Valentine in its list of the best ten wilderness towns and cities. This city also participates in an annual re-mailing program where thousands of pieces of mail flow into the local United States Post Office so that they can be re-mailed with a special Valentine’s Day postmark and verse.[Valentine, Nebraska, Wikipedia.org]

Emo Valentine Christian

Christian is a fun character and unfortunately I didn’t get to show him in his tighty-whities, but it still works out. 😀 This is the only card I added an extra embellishment and had to use some chipboard wings covered, of course, with Liquid Pearls. After I had finished, I thought it would have been cool to make Christian look like a playing card… but alas, maybe next time.

Did you know? Saint Valentine (in Latin, Valentinus) is the name of several martyred saints of ancient Rome. The name “Valentine”, derived from valens (worthy, strong, powerful), was popular in Late Antiquity. Of the Saint Valentine whose feast is on February 14, nothing is known except his name and that he was buried at the Via Flaminia north of Rome on February 14. It is even uncertain whether the feast of that day celebrates only one saint or more saints of the same name

Emo Valentines Betty

Ready for another Valentine card today? Here’s Valentine Betty with blowing a big smakaro! This is one of my favorite Valentine Emos and I adore the hair bow. Betty and London were originally both winking which I changed with a little modification. Enjoy!

Did you know? Archibald Thomas Pechey (1876-1961) often credited simply as Valentine, was a British lyricist and novelist. The pen name Valentine was derived from his mother’s family the Vallentins, who were London distillers. Pechey as ‘Valentine’ often wrote lyrics in conjunction with composer James W. Tate. Songs written by Valentine include “Love Will Find a Way” and “A Paradise for Two”.

Emo Valentines London

Today will be a fun day featuring all six Valentine cards I made from the Emo Valentines Kit I got in the mail, starting with London! There is a lot of work that went into the kit so putting them together was a breeze… simply divide up all the elements and start working. It was fun and I hope you enjoy them.

Did you know? A fugue state is a rare psychiatric disorder characterized by reversible amnesia for personal identity, including the memories, personality and other identifying characteristics of individuality. The state is usually short-lived (hours to days), but can last months or longer. Dissociative fugue usually involves unplanned travel or wandering, and is sometimes accompanied by the establishment of a new identity. Fugues are usually precipitated by a stressful episode, and upon recovery there may be amnesia for the original stressor.

Jude and his Shenanigan Crew

It’s the 12th and final challenge in the 12 Days of Christmas at Simply Betty Stamps and this one is all about Christmas Eve. The prize, like a beautifully wrapped present, is both divine and tantalizing and includes being a guest designer for January! So just like my kids, I’m huddled around the Christmas tree eagerly waiting for tomorrow. 😀

I made another fancy folded card but I don’t know what this was is called – it’s sort of like a step card on one side and a vertical card on the other half. Anyway it was fun to make and allowed for more images to surround the tree… including Mickey in the back hauling off the largest present before anyone else can!

This is my second attempt with Prismacolor Pencils and this time I used Linseed Oil to blend with. Linseed has a strong smell of something very old like a bookstore… nothing headache-inducing but noticeable. It blended easier than a paper stump but it was messy and the oil took overnight to dry out. However, I did notice that it smeared the image in some areas. I printed the digital stamps with a laser printer and usually don’t have problems but once I applied the Linseed Oil it would grab some of the toner and smear it around so some areas look dirty.

Did you know? The Lost Boys of Sudan are more than 27,000 boys of the Nuer and Dinka ethnic groups who were displaced and/or orphaned during the Second Sudanese Civil War. In 2001, about 3800 Lost Boys arrived in the United States, where they are now scattered in about 38 cities. Most of the boys were orphaned or separated from their families when government troops systematically attacked villages in southern Sudan killing many of the inhabitants, most of whom were civilians. The younger boys survived in large numbers because they were away tending herds or were able to escape into the nearby jungles. Orphaned and with no support, they would make epic journeys lasting years across the borders to international relief camps in Ethiopia and Kenya evading thirst, starvation, wild animals, insects, disease, and one of the most bloody wars of the 20th century.
