Princess Tilda

Shocking! Can you believe it? I made another Magnolia card… and added another face! I tried out a different style nose and smile on this Tilda but might like the other one I did earlier, however, I think she’s still cute with a little grin. ;D

I made this card using Princess Tilda from Magnolia and another Love Carriage from Make it Crafty. This one is done in soft pastel colors suitable for a princess! I even added glitter to her shoes – every princess needs glittered shoes.

I kept the colors to a minimum but piled on lots of embellishments including buttons, brads, lace and even Dew Drops. The layout is a simple one, even though it’s mostly covered, and I distressed the edges a little. As a final touch, I added a little bit of glitter here and there.

Did you know? Barbie is a fashion doll created in 1959 by an American businesswoman, Ruth Handler, who credits her inspiration to a German doll called Bild Lilli. The Bild Lilli Doll was a German fashion doll produced from 1950 to 1964, based on the comic-strip character Lilli by Reinhard Beuthien. Reinhard was ordered to make a “filler” to conceal a blank space in the Bild-Zeitung (German newspaper) of June 24, 1952. He drew a cute baby, but his boss didn’t like it. So he kept the face, added a ponytail and a curvy woman’s body and called his creation “Lilli”. The cartoon was an immediate success so Beuthien had to draw new ones each day.

Sweet Love

Welcome to the 2nd Challenge at Make it Colourful and this week’s challenge is to use red!
I made this card using an Elisabeth Bell stamp Sweet Love from Belles ‘n Whistles and behind it Lovers Pavilion from Make It Crafty. I used lots of reds and pinks to accent this Valentines card.

Here’s another view of the gorgeous pavilion which was so much fun to color. This was my second time working on the image and I think it turned out so much better. I like the blue sky without the clouds and the white pavilion is more romantic with this card.

Did you know? There are about 2,500 species of cicada around the world and they exist on all continents except Antarctica. Some cicadas produce sounds up to 120 dB “at close range”, among the loudest of all insect-produced sounds. The name is a direct derivation of the Latin cicada, meaning “buzzer”. They live underground as nymphs for most of their lives and emerge only when adults, which in some species is every 13 or 17 years.

Miss Anya Love

Today is What’s Up Wednesday at Club Anya and Friends and I have a wonderful tutorial over there to look at! I altered Miss Anya Love for this card, giving her a longer dress to look more like a princess. In the background I colored up another Carriage of Love from Make it Crafty.

Here’s a look at Miss Anya’s new long dress which I image is made out of soft velvet with gold satin trim. I used the same colors on her as I did with the carriage so they would match. I also added glitter to her headband, areas of her dress and her shoes, of course.

The laser cut hearts are covered with light yellow and lavender liquid pearls and then added one to each corner. I “sprinkled” on a few self-stick gems and finished one corner with a bow and charm. I used a large Nestabilities die for the background used foam dots to attach it to the base of the card so the whole front stands outward. Anya is also on foam dots which adds another layer and dimension to the card.

Did you know? St. John’s Cathedral is an Anglican church perched on a hilltop in St. John’s, Antigua. The present cathedral was built on a fossilized reef, in 1845, and is now in its third incarnation, as earthquakes in 1683 and in 1745 destroyed the previous structures. When St. John’s Cathedral was first built, it was criticized by ecclesiastical architects for being like “a pagan temple with two dumpy pepper pot towers”, while now it is extolled as the best cathedral in the West Indian province.

Spring Fairies

I made this card using a Fairy from Pergamano and in the background is Daffodil Dell from Make it Crafty. This is one I’ve had made for a while and finally had an empty slot today to use it. 😀 These little fairies are so cute so the card was fun to make. -Enjoy!

Did you know? The Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve is a conservation area and World Heritage Site within the wintering grounds of most of the monarch butterflies that migrate from east of the Rocky Mountains for up to 4,000 km south to central Mexico. It is estimated that between 60 million and 1 billion butterflies arrive in this area alone any given year. This area, which hosts the majority of wintering monarchs from the east of the United States and Canada, has only been known since the 1970s.

Prince Edward Island

Welcome to the first challenge of Make it Colourful! This week we are challenging you to use warm colors or cool colors! I made this card using three images Prince Edward Island from Mo Manning and combined it with Peaches of Plenty and Petals and Palings from Make It Crafty.

As you can tell I chose to use warm colors for my card and tried to pull it all out with a warm sunset background. I also found the perfect girl image to go with it.

Did you know? A chamber organ is a mini pipe organ, often with only one keyboard and without separate pedal pipes, that is placed in a small room. It is often confined to chamber organ repertoire, as often the organs have too little voice capabilities to rival the grand pipe organs in the performance of the classics. The sound and touch are unique to the instrument, sounding nothing like a large organ with few stops drawn out, but rather much more intimate.

Father Time

I made this card using Father Time from Elizabeth O Dulemba and placed it against Plenty of Peachy from Make it Crafty. The shapes on this card just sort of happened as I went from one idea to the next and in the end I was lucky that they fit!

The corner embellishment is laser-cut chipboard from Make it Crafty and I covered it with Liquid Pearls then added a Dew Drop. I also used cork and muted colors to give the card an earthy feel.

Did you know? A tally stick was an ancient memory aid device to record and document numbers, quantities, or even messages. Tally sticks first appear as notches carved on animal bones, in the Upper Paleolithic time. Principally there are two different kinds of tally sticks, the single and the split tally. The single tally stick was an elongated piece of bone, ivory, wood, or stone which is marked with a system of notches. The split tally was a stick marked with a system of notches and then split lengthwise and used in trading. This way the two halves both record the same notches and each party to the transaction received one half of the marked stick as proof.
