Circus Tent

This week at Make it Colourful the challenge theme is to color bright colors and I couldn’t resist using the new Make it Crafty Carnival images!

The sponsor this week is Whimsy Stamps so I added a few Meljen’s images for a grand parade. I added lots of embellishments too and of course used my favorite paper from last week! The tent banner was first inspired by one of my teamies who came up with a more creative name… that’s just a teaser so head on over to the Make it Colourful challenge blog to see which one. ;D

Here’s the Circus Tent background before it was mounted on the card. The sky was created with the Copic airgun and I used three of the BG colors to spray it (BG11, Bg72 and BG75). The angle of the airflow was a bit awkward and not what I’m used to. Plus I wasn’t able to adjust the airflow with the single can setup so I’ll have to work at my technique.

Did you know? Wilson Alwyn “Snowflake” Bentley (February 9, 1865 – December 23, 1931), born in Jericho, Vermont, United States is one of the first known photographers of snowflakes. He perfected a process of catching flakes on black velvet in such a way that their images could be captured before they either melted or sublimed. Bentley poetically described snowflakes as “tiny miracles of beauty” and snow crystals as “ice flowers.” He captured over 5,000 images of crystals in his lifetime.

Alva with Flower

I used one of my newest Magnolia stamps and this one comes with her own face! This is Alva and she must be one of the older ones but she is perfect for all seasons. The challenge this week at Make it Colourful is to color backgrounds. I used the Fairy Tree House and colored it with the same colors as Alva to help the images naturally match.

There is so much details on the house and a lot of it I didn’t notice until I started coloring, like the fence in front. I think this house can be combined with a variety of images and there are endless ways to color it.

Did you know? Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by a tapping sound that is created from metal plates attached to both the ball and heel of the dancer’s shoe. These metal plates, when tapped against a suitable surface, create a percussive sound and as such tap dance is a form of dance as well as the act of playing a musical instrument.

Marvin with Daisies by Lydia

I think I started something by posting Cassandra’s card last week and so this is one of Lydia’s many cards from this week. She did almost everything by herself but needed a little help with the bow and Liquid Pearls on the corner. She’s been making little cards with me all week. ;D

Hansel with Flowers

It has been so much fun being on The Stamping Bazaar design team and the gals have been real gems and a pleasure to get to know. Sadly, this is my last week on the design team so I thought I’d make a card with one of the first stamps Marina released last year. I made this card with Hansel with Flowers and enlarged him so I could work with the details. If your interested in being on the design team for the next three months, then head on over because The Stamping Bazaar is having a Design Team Call. Enjoy!

Did you know? Mercado de Sonora (Sonora Market) is a mercado público, or city-established traditional market, located just southeast of the historic center of Mexico City in the Colonia Merced Balbuena neighborhood. It was established in the 1950s with a number of other similar institutions in order to help regulate retail commerce in the city. This market has specialized in a variety of merchandise such as pottery, party items, and live animals — and the two which make it notable, herbal medicine and items related to magic and the occult.

Gracie’s Roses

The challenge this week at Make it Colourful is to blend the colors yellow and green and is sponsored by Crissy’s Art & Heart. I tried to blending the two colors together and see how that turned out. It was actually more difficult than I thought. I think if I had started with the green then added the yellow that it might have been worked out better, however, the result I got is still good.

The sentiment is by Helen Keller and says “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.”

Did you know? Helen Adams Keller (June 27, 1880 – June 1, 1968) was an American author, political activist, and lecturer. She was the first deafblind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. The story of how Keller’s teacher, Anne Sullivan, broke through the isolation imposed by a near complete lack of language, allowing the girl to blossom as she learned to communicate, has become widely known through the dramatic depictions of the play and film The Miracle Worker.

Autumn Breath

I made this card using Autumn Breath for the Little Miss Muffet Challenge. The theme this time is to use Pearls, Brads or Gems – that’s easy enough! 😀 The little sentiment tag (as well as the flourishes) are from Make it Crafty and was perfect to fill that empty spot.

Did you know? Frank William Abagnale, Jr. (born April 27, 1948) is an American security consultant known for his history as a former confidence trickster, check forger, impostor, and escape artist. He became notorious in the 1960s for passing $2.5 million worth of meticulously forged checks across 26 countries over the course of five years, beginning when he was 16 years old. In the process, he claimed to have assumed no fewer than eight separate identities, impersonating an airline pilot, a doctor, a Bureau of Prisons agent, and a lawyer.
