Rosemary

Check out this cute new girl from the Sugar & Spice Dolls.. meet Rosemary! She was released today over at Little Miss Muffet Stamps along with two other girls plus a Monster in some mega-monster pains! 😀 Check them all out plus some more inspiration from the Design Team over at Little Miss Muffet Challenges!!

I kept the embellishments simple on this card… actually if you haven’t noticed, there’s nothing but paper this time around! LOL The papers I found had all that I was looking for and then I used a colored Uni Cycle I had left over from a previous project.

The sentiment is from a local craft store and I thought it went well with the postage card look. The label and orange start circle is from another paper from the same paper pack. I colored Rosemary using the same color pallet and tried out a new skin tone combo as well.

I’d like to enter the following challenges:
Crafty Cardmakers Challenge #44 (red, white, blue)
Karens Doodles Challenges (layers)
A Spoon Full of Sugar #148 (let’s celebrate)
StampFairy Challenge #19 (for the girls w/sentiment)
The Corrosive Challenge #112

Did you know? “What Are Little Boys Made Of?” is a popular nursery rhyme dating from the early nineteenth century. In the earliest known versions, the first ingredient for boys is either “snips” or “snigs”, the latter being a Cumbrian dialect word for a small eel. The rhyme sometimes appears as part of a larger work called “What Folks Are Made Of” or “What All the World Is Made Of”. Other stanzas describe what babies, young men, young women, sailors, soldiers, nurses, fathers, mothers, old men, old women, and all folks are made of.

Did you know? Bristol board is an uncoated, machine-finished paperboard and is named after the city of Bristol in the southwest of England. Bristol board may be rated by the number of plies it contains or, in Europe, by its grammage of 220 to 250. It provides two working surfaces, front and back, which separates it from illustration board that only has a front working surface. The surface texture can vary for different applications, including a smooth plate finish and a medium vellum. Artists working with friction-based media, such as crayon, chalks, or charcoal would use a rougher texture. Smooth finishes are generally more suited to other types of media, such as inks.

Update: I made the Top 3 at Scrap-Creations for this challenge!

Cordelia the Mermaid

We got something new for you at Make it Crafty… meet Cordelia the Mermaid! If you’re signed up for Zoe’s newsletter you know that this sweet mermaid is available now AND at a discounted rate – so hurry on over and pick her up now! Not yet you say? Well, here is some inspiration to get you motivated…

This ‘beaut was so much fun to color with her flowing hair and long tail. On the tail I colored it first and went back in with the Blender marker to give it “splotches” then dotted in the darker areas with the same greens to give it this texture. On her tail, top and seashells I used Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink for some shine.

I had completely different papers selected when I first started coloring but in the end chose to swap out a few to add the black and white for a greater contrast. The flowers are from Stampin’ Up! and looked like water lilies to me. I also added a few small pearls to complete the fantasy look.

I finally followed Annika’s tutorial for a cloudy sky and loved the results! It’s super easy to do and she outlines the technique so it’s easy to follow. She has a step-by-step guide and a recent video tutorial as well.

Just a reminder, there is no challenge at Make it Colourful this week but we are getting ready for the Mo & Zo’s Carnival Blog Hop on Thursday that you don’t want to miss out on!

Did you know? A pearl is a hard object produced within the soft tissue (specifically the mantle) of a living shelled mollusk. Just like the shell of a mollusk, a pearl is made up of calcium carbonate in minute crystalline form, which has been deposited in concentric layers. The most valuable pearls occur spontaneously in the wild, but they are extremely rare, however, cultured or farmed pearls from pearl oysters make up the majority of those that are currently sold. Pearls that are considered to be of gemstone quality are almost always nacreous and iridescent, wild or cultured, like the interior of the shell that produces them. However, almost all species of shelled mollusks are capable of producing pearls (formerly referred to as “calcareous concretions” by some sources) of lesser shine or less spherical shape.

James at the Carnival

Welcome to the carnival! Well, at least, the carnival on a card. ;D I put together this project as an eclectic conglomeration as if it was a box full of memories filled with trinkets and mementos. I used James at the Carnival from Mo Manning and Candy Cart from Make it Crafty.

Some of the embellishments are items scattered around my desk, such as the tickets, paperclip and bottle cap. Although most of them are new items I found when I knew carnival images were coming out! This particular style is more rustic and antique which was a new style that was fun to work with.

Looks like “James” has already won his prize and settling down for some lunch. And what’s a carnival with out a candy cart filled with some Salt Water Taffy? Hmmm, my favorite! I was even lucky enough to find some faux candy in the craft store the other day and had to add it to the card.

Here’s a better view of the Candy Cart and I’ve seen Tilda sitting on it the other day – it was cute. A fun part of using these new Carnival images as it allows me to work on new color combination and this black/gold/red one has been fun.

This was just a little preview of what is to come next week! Grab the badge from the sidebar and mark down in your calendars for next Thursday…. Mo & Zo’s Carnival is coming to town!! (That’s Mo Manning and Make it Crafty coming together with the perfect combination of characters and scenery that you won’t want to miss out on!) 😀 Check out the announcement…

Did you know? The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a scientific agency within the United States Department of Commerce focused on the conditions of the oceans and the atmosphere. NOAA warns of dangerous weather, charts seas and skies, guides the use and protection of ocean and coastal resources, and conducts research to improve understanding and stewardship of the environment. In addition to its civilian employees, NOAA research and operations are supported by 300 uniformed service members who make up the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps.

Butterfly Kisses

This card is actually made from so many “wishes” and “first tries” that I’m surprised it turned out at all. ;D I wanted to experiment with the newest Copic colors and a few Fluorescent ones too. Plus it was fun to use a new Nestabilities Die!

This Nestabilities Die was fun and I cut out extra whie papers to help it look more like a book. On the heart, I discovered using Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabbers to cover the lasercut chipboard and it worked out well. The dabbing leaves a nice texture and on this heart I went over it again with a second color for depth.

I merged two images before printing instead of layering one on top of the other which made it easier to color. Speaking of which, some new colors were used on this image too… the yellow shirt (YR30), birds (BG70), leaves (YG61), shoes (E81, E87), and shorts (FB2)! The skin tone is a new combo shared to me by Annika and I rather like it.

Did you know? Fluorescence is the emission of light by a substance that has absorbed light or other electromagnetic radiation of a different wavelength. In most cases, emitted light has a longer wavelength, and therefore lower energy, than the absorbed radiation. The most striking examples of fluorescence occur when the absorbed radiation is in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum, and thus invisible, and the emitted light is in the visible region.

WoJ Clown

Last week for the Make it Colourful challenge I colored the Circus Tent… but it turns out we forgot our tickets! So this week we’re heading back to the entrance to visit the Ticket Booth! This week our challenge is to color skies… and yes, there is a sky located under all the embellishments. 😀 Honest!

This cute clown is from Whiff of Joy and looked friendly enough that I had to have it for this Carnival collection. ;D The sky was done in a winds pattern which I had tried out before (on the Wacky House) and loved how it turned out. Here’s a picture of the sky before the Carnival “opened.”

Did you know? Opal is an amorphous form of silica related to quartz, a mineraloid form, not a mineral. 3% to 21% of the total weight is water, but the content is usually between 6% to 10%. It is deposited at a relatively low temperature and may occur in the fissures of almost any kind of rock, being most commonly found with limonite, sandstone, rhyolite, marl and basalt. 97% of opal is produced in Australia and is its national gemstone.
