Did you know? A matryoshka doll, also known as a Russian nesting doll or a babushka doll, is a set of dolls of decreasing sizes placed one inside the other. The first set was carved in 1890 by Vasily Zvyozdochkin from a design by Sergey Malyutin, who was a folk crafts painter. His eight doll set was inspired by a set of Japanese wooden dolls representing the Seven Lucky Gods.
